Teaching

Since 2003, Andrea Weiss has been Professor of Film at The City College of New York.  She currently serves as Co-Director of the MFA Program in Film, a diverse, international film community in the heart of Harlem, New York.  She teaches a course on documentary directing and closely mentors graduate students on their thesis film projects. In 2011, she invited the legendary filmmaker Chantal Akerman to join the City College film faculty, and Chantal taught there until her death in 2015.

Andrea is also Founding Director of the Documentary Forum: CCNY Center for Film, Journalism and Interactive Media, which brings award-winning filmmakers and  films, production-related workshops, and other events to the City College campus on a bi-weekly basis. These events are free and open to the public.

Prior to teaching at the City College of New York, she taught Documentary Filmmaking at the National Film and Television School of Great Britain, alongside the late, great documentary filmmaker Dick Fontaine.
